What’s in their kit?
David Ragan Is Prepared
What are three unique items you plan to include in your kit in addition to the suggested items from the list?
“Knowing me, the first item I’d try to put in my Ready kit would be my favorite hot dogs from The Varsity. Seriously though, I would include several cans of Beanie Weenies, which I loved to eat as a kid, along with a manual can opener and a couple of cases of Coke Zero. I’d also include my Sprint Blackberry phone so I can keep in touch with the outside world and look at pictures of my friends and family. I’m determined to find extra room between my flashlight, passport, important documents and bottled water for a couple of golf clubs. If the power was out, and I knew all my friends and neighbors were safe, practicing my swing would be great entertainment.”
What would you say to fellow Georgians about preparing for a large-scale emergency?
“Not to be pessimistic, but you should always be prepared for the worst. It’s better to have too many supplies, than not enough!”
Why do you think emergency preparedness is important?
“Just like our race team, it’s a good feeling to know that you’re prepared for anything. With a Ready kit, you have the comfort and satisfaction of knowing you’ve taken steps to survive an emergency.”
Have you or a loved one experienced an emergency where a Ready kit would have come in handy?
“My parents weathered a bad ice storm several years ago and fortunately my mom had stockpiled extra gallons of water. This was a life saver for my parents because they use well water. The well pump requires electricity to pump the water to their house, and the storm knocked out the power. Having water stored was a really smart idea.”
