What’s in their kit?

What are the three unique items you have in your Ready kit in addition to the suggested items?
Material things don’t mean anything if you don’t have the items you need to save your life. For myself and a lot of other people, that means you need extra medication. That could be the difference between life and death. If I were to bring some other things, I would pack a lot of pictures of my husband and my family at different gatherings. I do a lot of crafts, so I would also try to save some of my craft items—crochet, knit, and needlework.
Why do you think emergency preparedness is important?
I lived in Florida for 50 years and we had a lot of hurricanes. When you’ve been through enough of those, you know how important it is to be prepared and calm. You don’t want to be rushing to the store at the last minute.
Have you or a loved one experienced an emergency where a Ready kit would have come in handy?
During one hurricane, we couldn’t go outside, so we had to use up our supplies. First, it’s the food in the refrigerator, then the canned food and water. We always had things on hand. We were always prepared. We had a lot of water, canned foods, and Sterno stoves to heat up the food. Trust me, having that emergency stove comes in handy when the power goes out. I think it’s actually pretty easy to prepare when you only live with adults. With small children, you have to pack differently. You have a lot more things to think about.
