What are the three unique items you have in your Ready kit?
I have plenty of water, by the jug and by the bottle, a huge battery-operated flashlight with backup batteries to see around the house, and a blanket. I have the same things in my car as well. My friends wonder why I keep a blanket and a pair of extra walking shoes in my trunk, but they realize how smart it is when I explain they are for emergencies. Last but not least is, of course, my radio. You will always need to have a battery-operated radio to be informed in case of emergencies. As a radio host, I talk and entertain people on a regular basis. However, it is also important for me to take time to educate people, especially when it comes to safety. I think it’s important to always have these things on hand and to make sure they work.
Why do you think emergency preparedness is important?
I think it’s important to all of us because you truly never know when these things can happen. Something as simple as a flashlight with batteries can be instrumental in saving a life. An extra three days of meds tucked away in a safe place can also make a difference. Being ready is crucial, because weather conditions are unpredictable. This should be a major part of our lives.
Have you or a loved one experienced an emergency where a Ready kit would have come in handy?
In the past month alone I have personally experienced three major thunderstorms where the power went out. I can’t imagine if this lasted longer than a couple of hours. That’s why I have my ready kits, one for the home and one for the car. Get Ready Georgia, for your family and friends!
